The Champion for Children’s Run to date has raised an incredible £20,000 for Children’s Hospice South West. This fantastic money was achieved through sponsorship, both for John himself and all of his support runners, donations made prior to and after the event, and street collections made during the 30 hour non-stop event.
Street collections were made in Barnstaple, on 29 April, by the start point of the first leg of the route in the square as runners registered and passers by and general public gathered to await the arrival of John. The collection made in Barnstaple totalled £207.26.
On the second day, John crossed the Mendips, through Glastonbury, Street and Wells. Collections were made in each of these towns where John was cheered and greeted by many spectators! £836.66 was collected across these collection points.
In total, street collections boosted the amount raised by the Champion for Children’s Run by £1043.92 which was hugely significant and Children’s Hospice South West would like to thank North Devon Council and Mendip District Council for their support for these collections and everyone who put some pennies in the bucket!
